Getting Married During Feria de las Flores: When It Works and When It Does Not

Feria de las Flores is the ten day flower festival in early August that closes streets, fills hotels, and produces the silletero parade that half the world's Colombia stock photos come from. It is beautiful. It is also the single week each year when a Medellin wedding is at its most operationally hostile.

This is a straight read on when Feria works as a wedding backdrop and when it makes the wedding week a mess.

The 2026 dates and why compression is worse than published

Feria de las Flores 2026 runs late July through early August. Silleteros Sunday is the closing day and the peak. What that means practically: guest hotels in Poblado double or triple their rates. Airbnbs go to walk-up rates. The Jose Maria Cordova airport queues expand. Uber pricing surges. Restaurant reservations disappear.

Compression is also worse than the calendar suggests because Colombiamoda (the country's largest fashion week) frequently overlaps with Feria in late July. When both events run in the same week, El Poblado is functionally sold out at any price a normal wedding block would consider.

When Feria actually works for your wedding

Feria works if you have three specific things going for you.

You booked twelve months out. The hotels that will honor a wedding block rate through Feria required your block contract eight to twelve months in advance. If you are inside six months of a Feria date and you do not have the block, the guest lodging is going to hurt.

Your guests want Feria as part of the trip. If your guest list is people who would enjoy the silleteros parade, the horse cavalcade, the concerts, the flowers, and the crowd energy, then Feria adds value to their trip. Instead of a wedding weekend they get a wedding-plus-festival week. They will remember it.

Your venue is not in Poblado. A Llanogrande, Rionegro, or Santa Elena venue is largely insulated from Feria compression. A Poblado rooftop or Provenza restaurant buyout is inside the compression zone.

When Feria wrecks the wedding

Feria wrecks the wedding when any of these are true.

Your guests are older or need routine. A wedding week that involves streets closed for parades, restaurants full, and unfamiliar crowds is harder on parents in their seventies than it is on the bridal party.

You are trying to save money on hotels. You are not going to. Any budget that assumed shoulder-season Poblado rates is going to blow up in Feria week.

You wanted the city to feel calm. Feria is not calm. The city is at its most Colombian and its most crowded at the same time. If your wedding vision was quiet mountain-air Medellin, pick a different month.

You need reliable airport-to-hotel transfers. The airport queues are worse. The traffic on the Las Palmas highway to Poblado is worse. Build extra time or contract private transport.

The dates that give you Feria adjacent without the compression

Two windows work if you like the idea of Feria energy without the peak load. Early July, before Feria starts. Mid to late August, after Feria ends. Both windows keep you inside the second dry season of the year, keep you close enough to Feria that you can extend a trip if you want, and let you book hotels at rates that make sense.

The other reliable dry-season window is December through March. It is the busiest destination-wedding window overall, but the compression is more spread out across the season rather than concentrated in one week.

What Feria week does well

If you accept the trade-offs, Feria produces wedding photography that no other week in Medellin can match. Silletero-inspired floral installations. Real horses on the streets. The city dressed for its own festival. If your photographer is good and if your venue can integrate the aesthetic, the images are unrepeatable.
