What a Medellin Destination Wedding Actually Costs in USD, 2026
The number that follows you around when you research a destination wedding in Medellin is a soft one. Vendor sites publish tight-and-intimate ranges to get the click and then quote you double when the guest list is real. This piece gives you the tiers as they actually invoice in 2026, in US dollars, so you can decide what tier you are shopping in before you talk to a planner.
The five tiers, by all-in celebration cost
Tight and intimate, roughly $8,000 to $15,000, for 30 to 60 guests. This is possible in Medellin if you do a symbolic ceremony (not the legal apostille route), pick a mid-tier finca rather than a trophy campestre venue, and use local vendors rather than an international planner. Multiple lodging-focused guides have documented eighty-guest weddings well under fifteen thousand dollars when the couple was disciplined about scope.
Modest, roughly $15,000 to $30,000, for 50 to 80 guests. This is the honest floor for a destination wedding that includes a decent venue, real catering, a planner or coordinator, photography, and a DJ or small ensemble. Below this band you are cutting one of those.
Mid and welcoming, roughly $30,000 to $60,000, for 80 to 150 guests. This is where the full wedding weekend starts: welcome dinner Friday, ceremony and reception Saturday, brunch or send-off Sunday. Trophy venues become reachable at the top of this band.
Luxury and large, roughly $60,000 to $150,000, for 150 to 300 guests. Multi-day, designed finca, live band or headliner DJ, guest hotel blocks with transportation, professional bar, videography. This is what most published "destination weddings in Medellin" content is actually describing, whether it says so or not.
Outlier, $80,000 and up. Large religious destination weddings (Jewish destination weddings in particular have been documented at eighty thousand plus in production, with guest spend on hotels and experiences pushing the economic impact well past that). Multi-hundred guest counts. Multiple designed events across three or four days.
Component anchors that add up to the tier
For a Saturday event in the mid or luxury band, expect the following USD ranges. These are venue and vendor 2026 anchors, not fabricated averages.
Venue rental, small property. Three thousand to eight thousand dollars for the space.
Venue rental, trophy tier. Palau, Villa Celeste and the equivalent Llanogrande estates run ten thousand to twenty five thousand dollars for a full Saturday production.
Boutique hotel buyout in Poblado. Six thousand to twelve thousand for the buyout, plus another eight to eleven thousand in food and beverage minimums.
Catering, per guest. Thirty five to eighty dollars in the local-vendor band. Hotel banquets in the city run higher, roughly COP fifty five thousand to one hundred eighty thousand per guest depending on the property.
Photography, full day. Eight hundred to two thousand five hundred dollars for a competent bilingual photographer with delivery.
Planner, full destination package. A local flat around USD two thousand nine hundred (Boda Planes' published 2026 rate for core planning, additional events priced separately) is at the low end for full-service. Percentage-based planners take ten to twenty percent of the total budget on the international model.
What the vendor quote does not include
Foreign couples get burned in the same places every time. Watch these lines before you sign.
IVA at nineteen percent. Published menu prices may or may not include it. Ask before you compare quotes.
Service charge and open bar. Not always in the per-guest number. Open bar in particular is a separate negotiation.
Guest transportation. A Llanogrande or Guatape venue at midnight without contracted buses is a bad review waiting to happen. Budget contracted transport per guest as a real line.
Legal marriage. If you want a legal Colombian civil marriage rather than a symbolic ceremony, budget six to ten weeks of documentation work (apostille, translation, notary). Most destination couples do the legal act at home and the party in Medellin. This is a real strategic decision, not a paperwork detail.
Feria and December compression. If your date lands in Feria de las Flores week (late July into early August) or Christmas through New Year, guest-hotel rates in Poblado double or triple. Block rooms early or pay the walk-up rate at scale.
Compared to a US wedding
Vendor content likes the sixty-to-eighty percent savings line. It is directionally right and it is oversold. A well-produced Medellin destination wedding for one hundred fifty guests can honestly land at forty to fifty percent of the US equivalent, if you are disciplined and if you use the local vendor base. It gets closer to the US price if you import a planner from home, hire international bands, and demand US-standard everything.
